The Central Baptist Church began as a mission from the First Baptist Church of Crescent.

After a number of revivals sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Crescent, several families started meeting at Independence School on August 12, 1945. They soon moved to Columbia to the Odd Fellows Hall where Sunday School was held each week.

The First Baptist Church met with the mission on Sunday afternoon, September 21, 1947, and organized the mission into a church which was named Central Baptist.  Under the guidance of Reverend Durrill Davison, sixty-three charter members took on the responsibility of its ministry.

In December of 1969, work began on construction of a new building.  Through prayer, dedication and hard work, the first worship service was held August of 1970 in the new sanctuary.

In the Fall of 2001, once again through the love and dedication of the church families, construction was completed on the renovation of the kitchen and the addition of a new fellowship hall.

The Lord continues to bless Central Baptist Church through His love and guidance, allowing us to grow spiritually and to fulfill His commandment given in the Gospel of Matthew.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20
